The question is often asked, “Does prayer work?”
Prayer is neither a magical recipe nor a superstitious chant.
So what is prayer? It is a communication between man and God. Prayer
God is all right and all good. He is Holy.
Is man Holy? We can laugh at that question, if we are honest. Man is far from being Holy.
So how does an unholy man come before a Holy God? He doesn’t. Sin cannot be present with God.
Is it hopeless that a man can ever pray to God? It would have been hopeless because man fell from perfection a long time ago. But God did not forsake His creation that Satan stole away through man. God had a plan all along. He planned before the foundation of the world that His perfect Son would be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Jesus would be the only One who could do that for us. His Father was God, who overshadowed Mary and she conceived. Jesus blood is not tainted with the sin curse like man’s blood. Jesus was not only God (God being His Father) but Jesus was also man (through Mary). That is why He is called the God-Man. He is the Son of God and He is the Son of man. When He was sacrificed on the cross for our sins, He opened the way for us to freely come before the throne of God in prayer.
Back to our original question: does prayer work? Once you become a believer the door is opened to you. If something is within God’s will for you, yes, it will come to pass. Although, sometimes it does not happen like we think it should. Sometimes, the answer is no. But personally I have seen some very astonishing things happen. I believe there is power in a righteous man’s prayers. And when two or three (or more) are gathered in His name…Wow! Amazing things can happen. Are we righteous on our own? No, our righteousness comes from Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is not like the fairy tale of Santa Claus. You are not to be good in order to receive gifts. But if you truly believe, you want to “be good”. It is a joy to please our Lord and Savior because we love Him. We love Him because He first loved us.
I want to thank all those who prayed around my vehicle while my grand-daughter and I were trapped inside from the crash. And thank you for all the prayers since that time. We are both on the mend. I don’t know why that crash happened. But I’m not worried about it because I know that God was with us…in an amazing power of His love. Yes, I believe prayer works. And I believe God’s people should pray more than we do.
